TREVISO. «Besides the matches of the national team, I also follow the matches of your championships. I do it when I can and when some television broadcaster, actually too rarely, offers them ». The words of the Head of State Sergio Mattarella addressed to the European champions of volleyball guests on Monday at the Quirinale photograph a situation that has practical – and also economic – implications that are not insignificant, for those who (in addition to having the necessary time available) wants to follow the main team sports tournaments, primarily those involving our club teams.
Sunday afternoons are covered by the dust of time when mother Rai proposed the second half of a football match on a deferred basis; then came the commercial broadcasters, pay TVs, encrypted signals and schedules broken up with advances and postponements. Internet and streaming have done the rest, dramatically multiplying the opportunities and offers aimed at the customer-fan-enthusiast who buys the product (pardòn, the championship), often combined with other proposals, be they movies, TV series, cartoons or cooking programs.
The key word is almost always “exclusive”, not because there is an elegant treatment, but in the sense that it excludes non-subscribers and risks cutting out those who are less accustomed (also to an identity card) to the use of technology. Putting aside the technical problems, the line that can make the tantrums, the quality sometimes to be reviewed, the account that must be done is also economic, with a weight on the monthly budget: the prices, for those who are passionate about sports, go up and not so much for the single contract, as for the whole and to be able to follow even just one’s own team which, not infrequently, participates in a national and an international tournament. Only something remains clear on some Rai and Mediaset digital terrestrial channels, for the rest you have to put your hand first to the credit card and then to the remote controls or apps.
FOOTBALL
Here it is easy, the reader will be prepared: Dazn, a streaming platform, offers the whole Serie A (Venice) and Serie B (Cittadella), three games in turn go to Sky. The C series (Padua) can be seen in full on Eleven Sports; only the Monday postponement goes on Raisport. The Serie D teams for Veneto do not have television coverage; each club has the right to stream home games, a pleasant system in the Covid era which, however, was almost never replicated in the first days of the championship. The men’s Serie A (Treviso and Venice, which meet for the first time this season on Saturday at 7 pm) remains with the postponement of Sunday on Raisport, all the rest on Eurosport (until the expiry of the subscriptions), or Discovery +, another platform in streaming owned by the same publisher: it has already made the boom with the Olympics. Serie B (Virtus Padova, Rucker Sanve, Secis Jesolo and Gemini Mestre) go to the Lnp Pass portal at 60 euros per year, while the maximum women’s tournament, the cheapest at 20 euros for the whole season, will be streamed on Lbftv: there we find the Fila San Martino and the reigning champions of Umana Reyer Venezia. Two European cups (BCL for Treviso and Eurocup for female Reyer) are, at the moment, free on Youtube, pending agreements (Discovery + again around the corner); the men’s Eurocup – with Reyer protagonist of a much longer regular season, 18 matches are guaranteed – will be on Sky and Eleven Sports.
VOLLEY
Practically total transfer of rights: no more in-house production, Italian championship (Superlega, with Kioene Padova) and World Cup for clubs, men and women (Imoco Conegliano, who must also defend the world title), Vnl and World Cup will be streaming on Volleyball World, even with the simultaneous match of one match per week on Rai (which broadcasts the Supercoppa Imoco-Novara on Saturday), while the Champions League (the panthers of Conegliano are the holders of the trophy), at the same price, passes on Discovery +.
RUGBY and THE OTHER
The Peroni TOP10 (Argos Petrarca) is back in the clear and live with one race a week on Raisport. For all the others, all that remains is to go to the stadium. The two Benetton Treviso European tournaments will be free-to-air on Mediaset 20 (URC) and payment on Sky (Challenge Cup, one-step agreement). The men’s and women’s A series (Syn-Bios and Came Dosson) and women’s Futsal pass on Sky, handball (Cellini Padova and Mestrino) goes to Eleven Sport, the men’s and women’s water polo (the two Antenore) will have some releases on the Waterpolo Channel. The monthly costs are around 30 euros for Dazn, 36 for Sky, 8 each for Discovery +, Eleven Sports, Volleyball World Tv, Mediaset Infinity +; they make a hundred euros a month, just under a thousand a year, taking advantage (but not all of them do) from offers with a longer duration. So ready with a sofa, smart TV, ADSL and popcorn tub. Will they be enough?
