ARNAD

The runner Marina Cugnetto, 30 years old nurse from Arnad, will leave today, Wednesday 23 March, for the United States. The athlete from Canavese, who in 2019 won the 5 lakes foot race in the women’s category, on Friday 25 March will take part in the eighth edition of the relay race of three hundred and forty miles (about 547 kilometers) from Los Angeles and Las Vegas, with the goal to break the record of 37 hours and 12 minutes.

«I am a runner – says Marina Cugnetto – who loves mountain running and I was selected by the American company On to take part in this expedition, which I consider unique – says Cugnetto – and I accepted very gladly, because it gives me a lot of adrenaline. Our goal is to lower the mileage record and go below 37 hours, which appears very difficult, but not impossible ».

Cugnetto then focuses on her teammates, who will all be foreign runners and above all whom she will meet directly on the Santa Monica beach in Los Angeles, as she herself explains: “It’s a relay race, we will change each other every ten km, in total he will do about ninety km running both during the day and at night, with consequent climatic change, in some sections of the route up to thirty degrees, as in Death valley. At the race each team can be made up of up to a maximum of thirteen participants, while it was limited to six, as in our case, members if you want to do the race at a competitive level – says Cugnetto -. The members of my team come from all over the world: France, Canada, Spain, Mexico and the United States could not be missing, our common language will be the fighting spirit that will have to unite us to win this challenge and enter the Guinness Book of Records. “.

To face an endurance test of this kind, a very hard preparation is then necessary and also from this point of view Cugnetto in all these weeks has always trained with great intensity.

On Sunday 14 March Cugnetto won the trail test in Campo dei Fiori, in the Varese area, a Fidal mountain running race, as Cugnetto continues: “Physical preparation, but above all psychological preparation, are fundamental, to win a race before tackling this experience is very important. On American soil it will not only represent the Aosta Valley and the whole team of the club for which I run, Atletica Saluzzo, but also Ivrea and the Canavese, since I was born in Ivrea and among the aspects that I love most of this city , there is also its historic carnival. I was on the team of Orange throwers of Death ». –
