Anderlecht will host Union at home in the competition on Sunday. The question is how the affected turf in Lotto Park is doing.
The field was able to rest for exactly one month, but the harsh Belgian weather did not make it easy to treat the mat. Yet RSCA’s efforts paid off. Thanks to double the lighting and the use of field heating, some new grass has germinated. The site is currently in acceptably good condition, but will it hold up?
After this season, Anderlecht will intervene anyway. Purple-White can then have the top layer of the turf scraped off as it does every year, but it is considering going further than that. A complete redevelopment of the turf is also an option. The underlayer is then also removed and the artificial grass fibers between which the real grass is sown are also replaced, for example. The cost of that operation could reach 800,000 euros. A hefty budget, but Anderlecht is studying it. (jug)
