The proceeds from the event are given to the Via di Natale in Aviano and the Cucchini Foundation
In 27 years of history, the Giro del lago di Santa Croce has collected and donated, in part, to the Via di Natale in Aviano and Cucchini in Belluno, more than 370 thousand euros. A long and important history of solidarity, that of the Giro, which began in 1995, a little for fun and a little for a bet. In that 1995 the participants were about eighty. Within a few years the numbers grew considerably, so much so that in 2000 they reached 1250, for a donation to the Via di Natale of over 12 million lire. 2002 saw 1461 members for a collection paid to the Pordenone association of 7305 euros. In 2006, the reduction of the quota of 2 thousand: 2,207 members for 11,035 euros donated.
Two years later the demolition of another wall, that of 3 thousand: 3 091 to be precise, the people who did not want to miss the appointment, allowing them to collect as many as 15,455 euros for the Via di Natale. In 2014, a new absolute record, thanks also to the presence of runners, for the first time at the start of an event hitherto reserved for cyclists. In 4.031, seven years ago, they responded positively to the invitation of the organization, allowing them to collect and pay a good 20. 155 euros to the Via di Natale in Aviano. An important season, 2016, the year in which to the consolidated collaboration with the Via di Natale in Aviano, the organization adds that with the Cucchini Association of Belluno. On August 21, with the registration passed from 5 to 7 euros, they respond to the appeal 3. 648 between cyclists and runners, allowing them to collect 25. 536 euros, paid equally between the two associations. We return to over 4 thousand participants, and a new record, in 2017, the year of the addition of a 7-kilometer walk alongside the tradition of 17. 4. Participants are 4. 146 and as many as 29. 022 euros collected and paid , equally, to the two associations. Record also in 2018, with 4,515, and record, indeed apotheosis, in 2019, year of 25 years of history: it rises to 5,049, with a total of 35,343 euros raised.
In 2020 the Tour of the lake was not held, due to Covid-19. But the Alpago 2 Wheels & Solidarity Committee did not stop. He strongly wanted to continue to remain alongside the two realities that he has supported for some time, namely Via di Natale and Cucchini di Belluno in Pordenone. It did so through a fundraiser that took place in August, September and October. In the end, 1,515 “competitors” wished to participate, allowing them to collect 10,605 euros.
