The Austrian Dominic Thiem and the Munich-based Max Rehberg had to admit defeat in the first round of the ATP tennis tournament. There were long breaks on the first day due to heavy rain at times.

First the rainy weather caused postponements at the ATP tennis tournament in Munich, then the former US Open winner Dominic Thiem was thrown out in the first round: It was a turbulent first day.

The Austrian Thiem lost to the Spanish qualifier Alejandro Moro Canas 4:6, 4:6. Munich’s Max Rehberg also failed on the rainy first day of the tournament. He lost to Alex Michelsen from the USA 6:7 (2:7), 3:6.

Rudi Molleker did better afterwards, defeating the Italian qualifier Francesco Passaro 6:4, 6:2. For the 23-year-old, currently number 179 in the world rankings, it was the first victory on the ATP tour in almost five years. He will face sixth-seeded Brit Jack Draper in the round of 16.

Zverev and Rune start the tournament on Wednesday

Number one seed Alexander Zverev, who like defending champion Holger Rune from Denmark (2nd), Taylor Fritz from the USA (3rd) and Jan-Lennard Struff (4th) has a bye in the first round, will play his opening match on Wednesday.

The first matches of the opening day should have started at 11 a.m., but the number six seeded Briton Jack Draper and Vit Kopriva from the Czech Republic only came to the Center Court at 2:30 p.m. due to heavy rain. The meteorologists also announced for the rest of the week Rainy weather and temperatures in the single digits.
