Bologna, 8 June 2021 – On the sidelines of the second match of the Scudetto final won by Virtus Bologna, the Legabasket announced the winners of the various individual awards of the season: star of the awards ceremony was without any doubt Stefano Tonut who brought home both the palm of “best player in the league” is that of “best Italian “. The guard born in 1993, who dragged Reyer Venezia up to the championship semifinals traveling at an average of 16.2 points, 4 rebounds and 2.9 assists, chose social media to celebrate this double milestone: “These two awards weigh… and they weigh a lot! I’ve always played basketball for the simple purpose of having fun. As I grew up, however, the passion for this wonderful sport also grew inside me and with it also the desire to improve, compare and compete. For this reason, over the years I have always set myself small goals. From one of the first, to take a simple leap to try to touch the net of the basket, to the last one a few months ago, or to try to make the season with the highest and most constant performance possible. Obviously, to get here it took days, months and years made up of newspapers and small goals, of sacrifices and constant sacrifices. And of this I am happy. I am happy to have always tried to overcome my limit, trying to work hard, having patience and sometimes even going through a few moments of suffering … now I can say that it was worth even more. Yet I never thought that individual recognition in a team sport like basketball could give such strong emotions. All these satisfactions I am going to add to the collective ones collected in recent years and I will use them as a further stimulus to work even more, well aware of being on the right path “.
Finally, the player of Trieste origin wanted to give advice to those who like him share the passion for the ball in wedges and thank classmates and all those who have been close to him in this year: “Finally, I would like to give some advice to those who have a great passion like mine: forget about the clock, go to the gym with the desire to improve day after day while having fun and with pleasure to be with mates. I thank the club, my teammates, the technical and medical staff, and all the fans who have followed me over the years. I dedicate the awards there to all of them and to my family ”.
The other winners
However, among the protagonists of the awards there are also Happy Casa Brindisi and its coach Francesco “Frank” Vitucci who for the second consecutive time – the third in his career – was nominated “Coach of the year” after bringing the Salento up to the semifinals. Glory, however, also for the “diesse” of the Salento, Simone Giofrè, which won the “best executive” award. Then there are other winners Alessandro Pajola, “Best under 22”, Jacorey Williams, “Revelation player” e Kyle Hines chosen as the “best defender” while L’Aquila Trento was awarded the prize for the “best marketing project”.
