One day after the women, Austria’s men also took part in the relay at the Biathlon World Cup in Ruhpolding. The quartet Dominic Unterweger, Simon Eder, Felix Leitner and David Komatz fought their way to fifth place over 4 x 7.5 km after a particularly strong shooting performance. The victory once again went to Norway.

For Austria’s quartet, final runner Komatz secured the second-best placing of the season in the finish sprint, where he moved from seventh place past Slovenia and Switzerland to fifth. At the start in Östersund, Sweden, the ÖSV relay team took fourth place.

The successful result was achieved thanks to a strong performance on the shooting range – Unterweger and Eder remained flawless, Leitner and Komatz only produced one missed shot each. The day before, the women had already rehabilitated themselves with an eighth place for lapping in the previous race in Oberhof.

Despite eight spare rounds on the shooting range, the men’s victory went to the Norwegian quartet, where superstar Johannes Thingnes Bö was not in action this time. Second place, 45 seconds behind, went to Germany, who, despite two penalties and seven spares, relegated the Italians (ten spares) to third place (+58.7).
