Boggioni, a lot of adrenaline from the Europeans: “severe test in Funchal, times to improve”

by admin

The 22-year-old from Pavia speaks six times on the continental podium with 4 golds. In Tokyo he will do 5 races in addition to the relay

PAVIA. Monica Boggioni was among the blue medalists of the European Paralympic swimming championships, a sort of dress rehearsal in preparation for the Tokyo Olympic Games. «It was important to compete in Portugal – explains the blue of Aics Pavia Nuoto – I brought home a newfound dose of adrenaline and the beauty of sharing with my teammates a week of important competitions with the costume of the national. It was the first real test race in a different context, with all the necessary precautions, of course, but returning to breathe the air of the group, the preparation, the before and after ».

Boggioni climbed the podium six times: «As for personal and team results, I’m very satisfied, even if we could have done better and I’m talking about the times – explains the 22-year-old from Pavia – I’m aware that there is still a lot to work to improve. The Europeans have been an important test in this regard. I am satisfied with the 50 backstrokes, the 200 medley even though I competed in a higher category than mine and I didn’t go on the podium, but it was interesting. For other races in which despite having won the gold I have been far from my time, like the 200 style, for example, but at least now I know where to commit myself more. One of the aspects to work on is athletic training, because I will be involved in many races ».

The objectives

Monica doesn’t think about what her Paralympics medals could be. «I really like the freestyle, the 200 and 50 backstrokes, the 200 medley are demanding and I will have to work a lot on the technique. It will certainly not be easy to win. There will be more opponents and I will know many at the time of the race, because a year and a half of international stop has changed the hierarchies, especially the Chinese ones. My goal is to give my best, if that means getting on the podium I would touch the sky with a finger. What races will I do in Tokyo? The 100 and 200 style, the 50 backstroke, the 100 breaststroke and the 200 medley, while the relay races will be decided in due course. Having done the 4×50 mixed style in Portugal is not decisive, although I liked it because the result came from everyone’s commitment. Now I am getting ready for the absolute Italian championships scheduled in Naples in the second week of July, then the long blue team ».
