Bordighera and tennis: the Parmurelu d’Oru on Sunday at Riccardo Piatti

On Sunday Riccardo Piatti, the most important Italian coach in the world, the man with the most experience in developing talents, will receive the Parmurelu d’Oru. The recognition established by the cultural association Descu Rundu every year (except for 2020, due to Covid) is delivered to a Bordigotto by birth or adoption who has given honor and prestige to the town.

The appointment is at 4.30 pm at the Palazzo del Parco. At the entrance some panels will be set up on the origin of tennis in Bordighera and those on the Center created by Piatti.

A new occasion to celebrate the historic link between the city of palms and the red earth, after with the exhibition “Bordighera Lawn Tennis Club and Sirt rackets”, which took place this summer at the former Anglican Church, and after the publication of the volume “Tennis in Bordighera from 1878 to today”. “In that year the English community founded the first tennis club in Italy in Bordighera and thus an uninterrupted bond was born between the city and this noble sport,” says Gisella Merello, author of the book and president of the Prize jury.

After the greetings of the mayor Vittorio Ingenito and the speeches of Antonello Randone of the «Bordighera Lawn Tennis Club» and of Romolo Giordano, secretary of the cultural association Parmurelu d’Oru, Piatti will receive the Parmurelu.

The volume «My tennis» (Rizzoli Editore) written by Piatti with Federico Ferrero, who will be present for the occasion, will be presented. Finally, Piatti will discuss the “connections of international tennis with Bordighera”.
