New York, 12 novembre 2021 – After 13 years Britney Spears is free: a Los Angeles courthouse revoked legal custody who subjected her to tutors in every action and expense. Judge Brenda Penny thus ended the legal battle that had pitted Britney against her father Jamie for years.
Fans gathered under the courtroom under the slogan #FreeBritney. Jamie had already been removed from the role of guardian last September, following repeated accusations by his daughter of abusing his position. But a replacement had been appointed in his place.
Today the court has eliminated all forms of legal protection on the famous singer: now she is free to dispose of her life and her assets. Spears in the past had suffered from mental problems, and was placed under guardianship in 2007 for attacking a paparazzo.
“As of today, the protection of Britney Spears’ person and property is over,” Judge Brenda Penny ruled. For Spears it also means that she will be able to marry her fiancé Sam Asghari. A new hearing is scheduled for December to resolve the outstanding financial issues, including those legal fees.
