Chinese Men’s Relay Team Secures Second Place at World Relays, Earns Olympic Qualification

In an exhilarating display of speed and teamwork, the Chinese men’s 100-meter relay team clinched second place at the World Athletics 2024 World Relays in the Bahamas. Comprised of Wu Zhiqiang, Xie Zhenye, Yan Haibin, and Chen Jiapeng, the quartet blazed to a new season-best time of 38.25 seconds, securing a coveted ticket to the upcoming Paris Olympics.

Despite the absence of star sprinter Su Bingtian, who has previously clocked an impressive 9.83 seconds in the Tokyo Olympics, the Chinese team delivered a stellar performance. The lineup of Wu, Xie, Yan, and Chen had previously showcased their speed with a time of 38.28 seconds in a warm-up race in Florida, ranking as the second best time in the world this year.

Facing stiff competition from the Japanese team, featuring the formidable Sani Brown, the Chinese sprinters held their own on the track. While the Japanese team ultimately crossed the finish line first with a time of 38.10 seconds, the Chinese team’s strong second-place finish secured their Olympic qualification.

Meanwhile, the Chinese women’s team, comprised of Liang Xiaojing, Ge Manqi, Yuan Qiqi, and Li Yuting, delivered a commendable performance in the women’s 4×100 meter relay, finishing third in their group with a season-best time of 43.03 seconds. The women’s team will continue their quest for an Olympic spot in the upcoming rounds of competition.

With the Chinese men’s team advancing to the relay finals and the potential return of Su Bingtian to the lineup, fans can look forward to more thrilling performances on the track. The impressive showing at the World Relays signals China’s continued strength in relay events and sets the stage for an exciting Olympic campaign in Paris.
