Corona: “Mayor, let’s make a special CorriPavia”

The president of the 100 Torri Athletics launches an invitation to the mayor A pp appointment in September 2023: half marathon, 10 and 2.5 kilometers

After the cancellation of the 2022 edition of Corripavia, the half marathon organized by Atletica 100 Torri and the controversy between the organizers and the Municipality of Pavia for a lower contribution than expected compared to previous editions, the president of the Pavia club Franco Corona wants to make a proposal to the mayor for a special edition in 2023. And it does so through an open letter through the Province of Pavia.

“The painful decision taken by Atletica 100 Torri not to organize Corripavia for 2022 sparked a heated debate in the city that led us to think about how to respond to the strong desire for sport that seems to us to have emerged after the years of the pandemic – he writes Franco Corona -. For over 30 years, 100 Torri has been promoting athletics in Pavia and in the provincial territory with results that have made history (14 consecutive years among the top 12 clubs in Italy, more than 100 national titles and appearances in blue), as well as to an intense basic and organizational activity he cannot exempt himself from the commitment to give his own contribution for the rebirth of Corripavia. We therefore began to think and work to set up one Special Edition in 2023 – explains the president of 100 Torri – A very first draft of the program, to be defined together with those who care about the event and intend to collaborate to create an event that goes beyond pure sporting significance, which is also important – explains Franco Corona – and which can foresee 3,500 runners involved. The next 20th edition of the Corripavia included in the Fidal calendar for Sunday 24 September 2023, could include a half marathon (Km 21.07), valid as a regional marathon championship, a non-competitive 10 km in homage to the Ticimarcia, the first non-competitive march held in Pavia in 1972 and a 2.5 km of Minicorripavia valid for the Corripavia Schools-Family Run Trophy – continues Franco Corona -. Corripavia 2023, included in a Fidal provincial calendar of competitions, could promote the beauty of our city, local food and wine products with gadgets and prizes in kind and exhibition stands. But also be the first event of a three-year plan linked to the race in the city, in view of the 500th anniversary of the Battle of Pavia ».

And in view of the Special Edition 2023 in the programs of the Atletica 100 Torri there is also the creation of a calendar of approach stages, with a first race already on 25 September. “The 100 Torri will employ all the technical and organizational resources at its disposal in this project, but it is quite clear that Corripavia 2023 and I hope the following ones can be great events only with a joint response from the city”.
