Cycling, in Valdengo you race to discover the talents of tomorrow

by admin

Great cycling is back in Valdengo. That of the boys, hoping that it is the most spontaneous, fun and playful way to use a racing bicycle. The UCAB Biella traditionally organizes on the day of the Republic Day a series of youth competitions incorporated in the so-called «Blue Day», conceived by the Cycling Federation to group together different categories. The UCAB proposes two tests for Beginners, first departure at 10, and one in the afternoon, starting at 15, for students. The Ukrainian call was answered by 350 guys ready to get on the saddle and compete on a four and a half kilometer ring, to be repeated several times depending on the category and who get more and more nervous with each lap: from the 27 of the youngest to the 58 kilometers of the older children, including girls. «We honor friends who are no longer there – says Filippo Borrione president Ucab -, but in love with Valdengo and have done a lot for the cycling of the country. Lino Lava and Silvano Borrione organized the «Circuito del Castello» where the home champions Giancarlo Bellini, Adriano Pella and Celestino Vercelli raced. The latter two are no longer there and we want to remember them together with the organizers of that race. To pay homage this morning will be Bellini for the start, while in the afternoon Franco Balmamion will join us and he will start the 1st Memorial Vercelli ».

To experience a day like this, the participants come from Valle d’Aosta, Emilia Romagna, Liguria, Lombardy, a small group of Swiss and obviously the Piedmontese. Their names are unknown for the moment, however there are two of the top ten students of Italy, Matteo Fiorin and Alessandro Perracchione, what matters is to look at past editions to find out that many of those “young men” are now Italian cycling like Filippo Ganna who raced here ten years ago, in the race won by Mattia Viel now standard bearer of the Androni Giocattoli Sidermec, the team that has its logistic headquarters in Cossato and that brought Egan Bernal to Italy.
