The ‘Legends Game’ was settled at Stayen on Friday evening. With all ex-Canaries, here and there with a kilo more than in their better sporting times.
Two teams were built around captains Peter Delorge and Eddy Dierckx. After just one minute, Kris Buvens opened the score for team Delorge. A decisive referee David Meekers pointed to the spot a few minutes before half-time when Verjans was brought down, Van Houdt equalized. Siani made it 2-1 just before the break.
In half two the physical defects started to appear, eventually a heavy 6-2 score was recorded. Vangeel, together with a super sub (winner of substitute in the ticket sales), made it 3-1, after an assist from Delorge, who took plenty of tackles (and hugs), especially when he later changed sides to recover. Siani continued to pile up the beautiful combinations with Boffin. The Cameroonian made 4-1, Vangeel made 5-1 and 6-1. Eddy Dierckx recorded the 6-2 final score amid loud cheers from almost 1,000 fans. Even equipment man Benny Liebens made a substitute appearance in the fifty-minute match.
