Maradona’s “Hand of God” jersey achieves record price at auction
The jersey worn by soccer star Diego Maradona when he scored a goal in the quarter-finals of the 1986 World Cup has fetched a record price at auction. The auction house Sotheby’s announced that the contract was awarded with a bid of 7.1 million pounds.

In 2020, Diego Maradona died of a heart attack at the age of 60. The trial against several doctors will soon begin, including the football legend’s personal doctor. The charge is manslaughter. A new report is intended to exonerate the defendants.
Around a month before the trial begins against eight of Diego Maradona’s doctors and nurses, the defense wants to shed a new light on the circumstances of the Argentine football legend’s death with another report.
Accordingly, Maradona is said to have died of a sudden heart attack, which could not have been foreseen, as the newspaper “news” reported on Tuesday night (local time). Death occurred within minutes or a few hours. A previous report, however, came to the conclusion that Maradona’s agony lasted around twelve hours.

The public prosecutor rejected the new report. The author is not a heart specialist and created the document within 72 hours. “From our point of view, this doesn’t change the matter,” said public prosecutor Patricio Ferrari. “The expert’s version contradicts the report that 21 experts from an interdisciplinary commission prepared over three months.”
Maradona was in serious health trouble
Maradona died of a heart attack on November 25, 2020 in a private residential complex north of Buenos Aires at the age of 60. A few weeks earlier he had undergone brain surgery. According to the investigators’ assessment, massive mistakes had been made in the home care of the former top athlete, who was in serious health trouble.

The trial begins on June 4th against Maradona’s personal doctor Leopoldo Luque, his psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov as well as a psychologist, another doctor, the medical coordinator for the health insurance company and three nurses. The public prosecutor’s office accuses them of manslaughter. All defendants deny the allegations. If convicted, they face prison sentences of up to 25 years.
