Diving. A pinch of Belluno in the tank in Budapest: the Nagy-Batki dynasty continues with Estilla Mosena
Stilla Mosena

The sister of the Olympian Noemi at the World Cup, but not with Italy. “You live with mum and dad, with Hungary you can aim for Paris 2024”

BUDAPEST

In hot Budapest, the diving story of the Nagy – Batki – Mosena family continues. And if the spotlight in the past had turned on just mother Ibolya Nagy, while the four Olympic participations of her sister Noemi Batki belong to a much more recent history, now Estilla Mosena competes in the world elite of the discipline.

Unlike Noemi, however, and despite the Belluno origins donated by dad Dario, Estilla is in fact competing in the current world swimming championships as standard bearer of the Hungarian national team. Just like mom Nagy, who we remember was with Hungary in Barcelona 1992. Right at the beginning of the 90s Ibolya and her husband Dario Mosena had founded a company in Belluno, effectively starting the history of diving in Belluno.

The preparation for the 92 Olympics took place right here with us and once we left the Games behind, Nagy devoted herself full-time to the job of the coach. So she took a passion for Noemi Batki (born in 1987), even if certainly then no one would have even hypothesized a poker of attendance at the Games.

This time with the Italian flag on the chest, here are Beijing 2008, London 2012, Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 (1).

That his sisters Estilla and Tunde Mosena were born by diving from the castle of the Lambioi swimming pool was almost taken for granted, despite the fact that in 2005 the family decided to move to Trieste. And if Tunde is now, like Noemi, the coach of Triestina Nuoto, Estilla yesterday took part in her second race in this Hungarian World Cup.

At the Duna Arena, Mosena was in fact among the 39 divers at the start of the preliminaries from the three-meter springboard. The same competition, so to speak, in which Chiara Pellacani was competing. 109.20 points for her at the end of the second dive, but 244.80 at the end of the five rotations and the consequent twenty-first placement of her was not enough for her to get the pass for the afternoon semifinal. However, a non-negative performance, while more difficult was the afternoon from the 1 meter springboard, closed with 194.15 points and the 37th place finish.

“I am really happy with his world debut,” he underlines Noemi Batki, in Hungary to cheer on his sister. “She came to live here a year ago, joining mom and dad. Given the opportunity, you have chosen to compete for the Hungarian national team, especially as there is less competition than the Italian one. Here she is in fact one of the top divers, after having worked hard in order to reach the world championship qualification. The World Cup, among other things, had to be played in Japan in the spring and instead the move took place right here in Budapest. A beautiful sign of destiny ».

Estilla comes from sports and study experience at an American college in Fayetteville, Arkansas, where she continued to pursue the dream of reaching an international level.

“He experienced an incredible opportunity for growth,” emphasizes Batki. «For me it was a great emotion to see her compete in these world championships. I know how much she cared about that goal and she acted like the mature athlete she is. She sinned the semifinal from 3 meters she both escaped a little. Our bond? Even though we now live in Trieste and she in Budapest, we are always in touch and see each other on every possible occasion. See her in Paris 2024? Why not…”.

Mamma Ibolya Nagy does not hide emotions.

«I’m happy, really. He is not yet at his best from a physical point of view, but yesterday he was already much more relaxed than his debut from the one meter springboard a few days ago. I am convinced that if he becomes fully aware of his possibilities, he can take away not bad satisfactions. You will have the opportunity and time to grow further, and in the meantime here in Hungary they appreciate you very much ».
