Dolmen in the World Cup. “I’m in shape, I’ll try”

Elena Dolman

The cadorina has been called up for the weekend in Crans Montana. It has come close to making its debut twice, in Garmisch in 2019 and in Falcade in 2020

AURONZO. World Cup weekend for Elena Dolmen. The Cadore of the Army Sports Center has been convened for the weekend of Crans Montana, where the highest alpine skiing circuit stops off on Saturday and Sunday for two descents.

The call-up for the Swiss weekend comes after the good performances that the girl from Auronzo has offered in recent weeks in the European Cup: in the continental circuit, downhill Elena has taken a success (the first of her career) at the end of January at Sank Anton (Austria), a sixth place always in Sankt Anton, an eighth and a thirteenth place, just in Crans Montana, last weekend. In the general classification of specialties she is eighth.

Today and tomorrow the tests in the Swiss town, with the hope of finally being able to make their debut in the World Cup.

She had come close in 2019, when she was called up for Garmisch but then the race was canceled due to bad weather after a few descents and Elena remained at the gate without being able to take the start. She came close also last year, when the Cup made a stop on the Volata del San Pellegrino, but an injury to her hand in test stopped her once again.

“The condition is good and I’m skiing well,” explains the girl from Auronzo who this season is trying to return to the national team after the last two difficult years. “We are ten called and there are nine places. I’ll play it. The track is very technical, compared to the European Cup we will start higher, there are four or five more corners. We hope that the snow will hold up because here too it is very hot and the track is all in the sun ».

In addition to Dolmen, the blue technical direction has summoned Nadia Delago, Nicol Delago, Federica Brignone, Elena Curtoni, Sofia Goggia, Francesca Marsaglia, Roberta Melesi, Karoline Pichler and Monica Zanoner.

The Azzurri team was brilliant last season in Crans Montana, with Sofia Goggia winning both scheduled runs – third in a row after the 2019 one – while Elena Curtoni was third. In the past, always downhill, they also got a second place with Johanna Schnarf in 2010 and a third place with Nadia Fanchini in 2008. Sunday’s descent will be the last race on the calendar before the Courchevel finals: at the moment Sofia are qualified Goggia (first in the ranking with 400 points ahead of Corinne Suter with 331 and Ramona Siebenhofer with 278), Nadia Delago is sixth with 218, Federica Brignone twelfth with 135, Elena Curtoni sixteenth with 109 and Nicol Delago twenty-first at 82. Currently excluded Francesca Marsaglia thirty-first with 30 points but still with some chance to climb positions.

The Crans Montana races are scheduled for Saturday at 10.30 and Sunday at 10, live on Rai and Eurosport.
