Genk –
KVC Genk has had a dream weekend. As expected, the women’s team took the title in the third national D. And after Guibertin B’s 2-3 defeat against Esneux, the men’s team enters the final match day as the leader.
Without the injured Lore Gillis, Genk’s assignment at regional rival As suddenly became a little more difficult. KVC had to get a point to take the title, but it was a driven As that took the first two sets on board. The men from Genk gave the festivities some extra sparkle. On Saturday, Kris Vanrusselt’s men won three times 21-25 at Zoersel. Campforts and Molemans each scored 12 points, Louwette set 3 of the 9 kill blocks. On Sunday Guibertin B, which started the match day as leader, lost the top match against Esneux. As a result, Genk leapfrogged, starting the season epilogue on Saturday with a one point lead.
“A dream weekend,” says chairman Paul Molemans. “The title and promotion of our women’s team were not taken into account, but were of course very welcome. Our gentlemen also added the Limburg Cup to our trophy cabinet during the Easter weekend. If they keep a cool head against Waremme B in our own sports hall on Saturday, they will also become champions. That would be the culmination of an absolutely top season.”
