Rome, June 18, 2022 – A May Bolzano saw the prices of light and gas splash up by 112.9%compared to the same month of 2021. Then Trento (+109,2%), e Lodi (+ 79.8%), leader of many cities in Lombardy, where theNational Consumers Union, which has drawn up this ranking with the highest annual price increases, assumes that there are more speculations than in other parts of Italy. If instead we consider Food and beverages, Catania saw the highest rise in prices, followed by Imperia and Sassari.
Electricity and gas
The UNC elaborated the latest Istat data for the month of May, with attention to two items in the basket: electricity and gas, food and drinks. And he found that, if in Italy the increase in electricity, gas and other fuels in May rose by + 64.7%, reaching an average of 872 euros on a family on an annual basis, in the realities of some cities, the rise in prices has reached more than double. But if the podium is in Bolzano, followed by Trento, after Lodi it is always the Lombard cities that set a bad example: Milan + 78.2%, Varese + 78.1%, Cremona + 77.4%, Lecco in seventh place with + 76.8%, Bergamo + 76.6%, Brescia and Mantua (both + 76.5%), Pavia (+ 76.4%) and Como (+ 76.2%). Smaller increases, on the other hand, in Sassari (+ 51.6%), Reggio Calabria (+ 52.1%), Cagliari and Naples (+ 53.2% for both).
Food and beverages
In Italy, the prices of food and non-alcoholic drinks in May grew by 7.4% on an annual basis. An increase that determines an average sting equal to 417 euros per family, which even rises to 514 euros for those with a single child, to 569 euros for a couple with 2 children, with a record of 680 euros for parents with 3 or more children. Catania was the worst with an increase of 11.1% compared to May 2021, which translates into an increase of 643 euros in the cost of living for an average family. Imperia follows with an 11% increase in prices and an annual increase of € 589 per family. Third place for Sassari, with increases of up to + 10%. The ranking continues: Palermo (+ 9.9%), Teramo (+ 9.6%), Cosenza (+ 9.5%), Ascoli Piceno (+ 9.3%), while Trento, Gorizia, breaking latest news and Messina are all with a 9.2% rise in food and drink prices. Even if the price of energy goes up, Milan is the place to eat and drink while saving: prices up only 4.7% (according to Mantua 5%, and Como 5.2%.
