After the defeat against Inter, Bologna won 1-0 at the last second at the Castellani in Empoli thanks to Fabbian’s goal
Zirkzee watches Empoli-Bologna from the stands and his face, serious for over 90 minutes, only lights up in the 94th minute, when Fabbian broke the deadlock and decided a game that was 0-0 until injury time thanks to a super Caprile and a few wasted opportunities .
However, Bologna started strong straight away and after less than twenty minutes created two great chances, first with Beukema’s header, then with Urbanski’s right foot but in both cases Caprile opposed it. At the end of the first half Empoli worried the visiting defense: Beukema did everything. First he loses the ball in the build-up phase and favors the opponent’s counterattack, then he recovers and he blocks Niang at the right time. In the end the first half ended without a goal but more due to Caprile’s interventions than the lack of opportunities.
In the second half the pace drops but in the last ten minutes everything happens: in the 80th minute Saelemaekers devours the biggest opportunity of the match up until then, thanks to the deflection of a super Caprile who three minutes later also repeats the shot close-up by Fabbian. Bologna’s siege continues until the end and right around the 90th minute the match becomes even more heated: from Orsolini’s outsized shot who (with the goal wide open) kicked very high to Fabbian’s goal which in the 94th minute decided the match.
With these three points Bologna consolidates fourth place and keeps Roma and Atalanta at a safe distance (here is the ranking).
