Entertaining draw: Elversberg and Hannover are standing still

As of: January 22, 2024 12:00 a.m

Table neighbors SV Elversberg and Hannover 96 drew in the 2nd Bundesliga. A draw that was entertaining, but above all it didn’t really help the ambitious 96ers.

In the end it was 2:2 (0:1) in Elversberg in a game in which both teams equalized a deficit. This means that Elversberg and Hannover remain in the middle of the table. The promoted team was able to stop their short series of defeats with the draw, and the guests remained without a win for the sixth game in a row.

Hanover got off to a better start

Both opponents went into the winter break without a win, Elversberg with three defeats, the ambitious Hanoverians with three draws from the last five games. Accordingly, the start of the new football year should be groundbreaking for both.

The guests definitely got off to a better start: After a corner from Derrick Köhn, Nicolo Tresoldi headed in from eight meters (8th minute). 96 almost followed up, but Nicolas Kristof in the Elversberg goal parried Andreas Voglsammer’s shot with a strong reflex (12th). Only gradually did the Elverbergers get rolling, but without posing too much of a goal threat. The only time it became really dangerous was a shot from Robin Fellhauer (25th) from the backcourt, and no more goals were scored until the break.

Furious start for Elversberger in the second half

That changed after the break: the hosts turned the game around within three minutes. First, Jannick Rochelt equalized from seven meters after a nice header from Luca Schnellbacher (57th), then a free kick landed at the second post to Frederik Jäkel, who netted from five meters (60th).

Hannover comes back – double pack Tresoldi

But Hannover defied Elversberg’s psychological advantage and came back. Tresoldi scored a brace with a shot from the left half of the penalty area into the far corner – and the equalizer (69′).
