On March 17, Beijing time, the 2022 World Table Tennis Major League (WTT) Singapore Grand Slam ended the seventh day of the main competition. In a men’s singles quarter-final held in the evening, Chinese star Fan Zhendong defeated German player Francesca 3-0 (11-4, 11-7 and 11-8) and advanced to the semi-finals.
“Francisca defeated Xu Xin in the last round. It can be said that his state and fighting spirit are in a very good stage,” Fan Zhendong said in an interview after the game. In particular, the deployment of the serving round is very targeted. “The first round was won relatively smoothly, mainly because after the serving round controlled the opponent, other techniques and tactics were released.”
Fan Zhendong said frankly that compared with the previous games, he performed better in terms of speed today, which was also due to the adequate preparation before the game.
Talking about the men’s singles semi-final against Japanese player Yukiya Uda, Fan Zhendong said that it will be an encounter, “I haven’t played against him before. Recently, Yukiya Uda has improved his performance in both singles and doubles in the international arena. Both are very fast and the progress is obvious, so I am also very looking forward to this game.”
In fact, before the men’s singles semi-final on the 19th, Fan Zhendong will partner Wang Chuqin in the men’s doubles final on the 18th against Yuda Yukiya/Togami Hayabusa. Facing the same encounter, Fan Zhendong emphasized that he would fully communicate with Wang Chuqin to unify his thoughts, and at the same time make full preparations in terms of techniques and tactics.
