Good news for the weakened FC Bayern. Two top performers are ready for action in the quarter-final second leg against Arsenal FC. Goal scorer Harry sees a big plus for the duel in terms of personnel anyway. His review of the league season, however, is disillusioning.

Goalscorer Harry Kane is looking forward to FC Bayern Munich’s quarter-final second leg against Arsenal FC with a lot of confidence. “We have a great opportunity in front of our home crowd and want to keep the season alive,” said the 30-year-old on Tuesday in the Allianz Arena. He described the game on Wednesday (9 p.m., in the WELT sports ticker) as a “great moment. If we can take the step, there are only a few games left to make it to the final at Wembley.” The Champions League final will take place there on June 1st.

Kane scored from a penalty in the 2-2 first leg to give Bayern the interim lead. The former Tottenham superstar, who spent a season in Arsenal’s academy as an eight-year-old, is the record goalscorer in north London derbies. In 19 competitive games against the Gunners, Kane scored a total of 14 goals for Tottenham.

“It was a disappointing season for us in the league. Congratulations to Leverkusen for what they have achieved. We haven’t reached our level,” said Kane and named a big plus for the duel with Arsenal: “We have a lot of experience in the team with players who have already played big games.”

Kane scored 32 goals in the Bundesliga, in which he is chasing Robert Lewandowski’s 41-goal record season. In the Champions League, he leads the top scorers list before the quarter-final second legs with seven goals ahead of Antoine Griezmann (Atlético Madrid), Erling Haaland (Manchester City) and Kylian Mbappé (Paris St. Germain). Of course he has a history in games against Arsenal, but above all he wants to help the team: “We have great faith in ourselves that we can achieve something.” If the Munich team reached the semi-finals, their opponents would be Manchester City or Real Madrid . In the first leg of both teams the game ended 3-3.

FC Bayern again with Neuer and Sané

The Munich team has high hopes for the returnees Manuel Neuer and Leroy Sané in the second leg against Arsenal. “Manu can play, Leroy can play and has to grit his teeth – like the last few weeks,” said coach Thomas Tuchel on Tuesday. The game against Arsenal was a duel “completely on equal terms,” said Tuchel about the starting position: “But we need everything again. We need passion and also the tactical discipline like in the first leg. We really want to win this game. We need every viewer willing to fight with us. We need the extra percent.”

After his adductor injury, national goalkeeper Neuer, who was rested in the 2-0 win against Cologne, should be the big support, as in the first leg. Sané, who has long been plagued by pubic bone problems, played a decisive role in both Bayern goals in the first leg and was one of the key players in the game.

“He probably has to grit his teeth for as long as he can,” said Tuchel, referring to the personnel situation. “He drags himself through the season in pain for the team.” Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman are out as offensive alternatives due to muscle injuries. Tuchel did not reveal who he plans to use in the left-back position against the lightning-quick Bukayo Saka. Noussair Mazraoui and Raphaël Guerreiro are the alternatives.

However, after the draw in the first leg, Tuchel pointed out the appeal of the starting position. “The winner goes through, the loser goes out,” said Tuchel. “We have a game to take the next big step in this wonderful competition. We are ready to put everything on the table.”

Arsenal FC can plan for the appearance in Munich with captain Martin Odegaard. The 25-year-old Norwegian, who was injured after the 2-0 Premier League loss to Aston Villa, trained with the team in London on Tuesday before departure. Saka is also expected to be ready to play against Munich, as he is also said to have been slightly injured after the league game.
