PAVIA

Monica Boggioni won silver with the 4×50 mixed relay at the Paralympic World Swimming Championships being held in Funchal, on the Portuguese island of Madeira. The quartet from the United States dominated the race closing with a time of 2’32 “49, while behind him the fight for the other two places on the podium broke out: the blue team, made up of captain Efrem Morelli who swam in the fraction breaststroke, then Boggioni from Pavia engaged in the backstroke leg, Giulia Terzi in the dolphin fraction and Francesco Bocciardo in the freestyle one, fought hard, finishing in second place with 15 hundredths of a second margin over Spain (2’42 “66 against 2’42” 81).

«An exciting and beautiful race – the 23 year old champion of the Fiamme Oro and Pavia Nuoto radiantly comments – I am very happy both for the medal and because in my fraction I managed to swim in a shorter time than the one I swam in the final over 50 back. This makes me very happy because otherwise we would not have finished second. In any case, we all gave our best and exalted the team spirit that allowed us to win the silver medal ». Boggioni, after having won the direct final in the 200 mixed category SM5, will today observe a day of rest from competitions. It will be the only moment of pause for the Pavese, three times bronze at the Tokyo Paralympics, then awaited at a fiery finale of the world championship. In fact, tomorrow morning Boggioni will be engaged in the battery of the S5 200 freestyle (0re 10.41) and in the afternoon (19.31) she will be in the water in the final of the 200 style. Finally, on Saturday in the morning (11.28) she will be engaged in the 100 style battery and in the evening (22.35) in the final. Monica has already won two silver medals (100 breaststroke and 4×50 mixed) and three bronze medals (50 style, 4×50 style, 50 back). –
