Football, Super League: Uefa cancels proceedings against Juve, Real and Barcelona

by admin

Uefa cancels the disciplinary proceedings against Juventus, Real Madrid and Barcelona for the Superlega project. The 3 clubs remained the only ones to support the initiative, which was abandoned by 9 other clubs “forgiven” by UEFA after the yes to the conditions imposed by the European confederation led by President Aleksander Ceferin.

In a note, Uefa announced the elimination of any investigation against the 3 “rebel” clubs. The disciplinary proceedings, suspended on the basis of the documents issued by the Madrid court, have been definitively closed. Uefa would have risked an indictment for failing to obey the judicial authority, with consequent financial penalties.

The three clubs had argued in the Madrid court that UEFA’s attempt to sanction them for creating a separatist league was contrary to European competition law. Uefa has explained that it wants to abandon its legal action as it respects the Spanish judicial process and believes that it is not in its interest or in the interest of its affiliated associations to proceed in court. At the same time, he announced that he would continue to do whatever it takes to prevent the formation of a separatist league, reserving the right to restart legal proceedings if the project, or any similar project, were to restart.
