IVREA
After more than two months of absence, on Sunday 20 February an official rugby match will be played at Diego Santi in Ivrea. Scheduled (kick-off at 2.30pm) is the Serie B match between coach Chris De Meyer’s Ivrea and Rugby Lecco, who have been leading the Serie B championship for years: “We have come from two months of very intense training – declares the sporting director Alessandro Ghitalla – We asked all the boys for extreme clarity. They were told in no uncertain terms to give precise answers: those who did not feel like making the difficult sacrifices for team and club were asked to abandon ship. Sebastiano Muggiano, Gabriele Pipicella, Werther Bartolini have stopped. Francoise Dene Mybourg has returned to South Africa. There is much more conviction and confidence in one’s own means within the group. The goal is to play every game without looking at the leaderboard, which is the last thing we care about right now. Unfortunately we have to register the knee injury suffered by Giorgio Tesse, the season is over for him ».
Meanwhile, Rugby Rovato has announced the retirement of the senior team from the Serie B championship. This is the epilogue of the long quarrel that began at the end of December with the dismissal of coach Daniele Porrino. Rovato will therefore restart from Serie C and leave the cadet championship in which he was leaders and undefeated in group 1 before the winter break, then extended by the pandemic. The other matches of the day see Amatori Capoterra- Unione Monferato, Cus Milan-Franciacorta, Bergamo 1950-Piacenza facing each other. Amatori & Union Milano and Varese are resting. The current ranking after the withdrawal of Rovato: Amatori & Union Milano and Piacenza 25, Cus Milano 20, Unione Monferrato 16, Bergamo 1950 and Lecco 15, Franciacorta 12, Amatori Capoterra 8, Varese 7, Ivrea 1. Amatori & Union Milano, Cus Milano, U. Monferrato, Bergamo, Capoterra and Ivrea one game less. –
