Former NBA Rajon Rondo arrested on weapons and drug charges

On Sunday, former NBA player Rajon Rondo was arrested in Jackson County, Indiana, for unlawful possession of a firearm, drug paraphernalia, and marijuana. The 37-year-old was stopped for a traffic violation when a police officer smelled marijuana and subsequently found the illegal items during a search. Rondo was taken to a Jackson County jail, where he posted bail.

The arrest comes after a previous incident in 2022, where Rondo had an emergency protective order filed against him by a woman. The order was later dismissed after the “parties reached an agreement,” according to a document obtained by ESPN. The woman had alleged that Rondo threatened her with a gun and displayed a history of “volatile, erratic behavior” that made her fear for her children’s safety.

Rondo, who played 16 seasons in the NBA and was a four-time All-Star and two-time NBA champion, last appeared for the Los Angeles Lakers and Cleveland Cavaliers during the 2021-22 season. It was also reported that Rondo was not allowed to possess a firearm due to a no-contact order against him.

Despite his successful basketball career, Rondo’s recent legal troubles have raised concerns and questions about his behavior off the court. It remains to be seen how the legal proceedings will unfold for the former NBA star.
