Fourth place for Bristot’s Italy: no Europeans

The Wevza tournament assigned the pass for the Tbilisi review only to the winner: at the end of April there will be another chance

MARSICOVETERE (POWER)

The Wevza tournament for the men’s national Under 18 volleyball team, which includes the very young spiker Alessandro Bristot from Belluno, ends with a fourth place. In the international tournament that took place over the last week in Marsicovetere, in the province of Potenza, the team coached by the Venetian coach Michele Zanin (and supervised by a world volleyball guru like Julio Velasco) was defeated 3-1 by Germany at the end of an extraordinarily balanced final for the bronze medal (just think that all four sets played were decided with the minimum difference, and that three of these four reached the advantages).

The one played last night for the third place of the event was a race that traveled on point to point from start to finish.

In the first set the Germans won 31-29, in the second they won 25-23. The blue sextet, never defeated, managed to get the game back on its feet by winning the third set 26-24. In the fourth, Germany managed to win, but only 30-28.

Winning the final for third place, however, would not have been enough to detach the ticket for the European Championships (ticket that was assigned only to the first classified of the Wevza tournament).

For the Italians, in any case, the doors of the continental review have not yet closed. In fact, from 21 to 24 April, Bristot and his teammates will have another chance to get their pass for the European Championships (scheduled from 9 to 17 July 2022 in Tbilisi, Georgia).

Italy Under 18’s journey in the Wevza tournament began with a 3-1 win against the Netherlands. Precisely in the opening match, the Sedicense born in 2005 (who has been playing in the youth sector of Trentino Volley for some years) was the best scorer of the match, scoring 22 points.

In the second match of the group stage, Bristot dragged Italy to overtake Germany with another dry 3-0. In that case, the contribution of the Sedicense was decisive especially in the second set when, with two attacks signed by the number three from Belluno, the Italian national team managed to grab the Germans and finally overcome them to the advantages.

In the semifinals, the azzurrini were eliminated in four sets by Belgium (also in this case, however, Bristot managed to put his signature on the scoresheet, scoring a point and making his contribution in the first set).

Last night, finally, the match for the third step of the podium rewarded Germany.

Bristot, once again, gave a significant contribution, with eight personal points and the usual performance of commitment and determination. He and his companions will try again in April. –
