Sandro Da Rold does not stop for a moment. The patron of Volleyball Belluno (to whose company the name of the men’s team is linked) is already projected to next season. A season that, at least in the intentions of the management, should see the Belluno players in the third national series, the A3, despite the defeat (3-1 for Bologna in the first leg, 3-1 for Belluno in the return, 15-11 for Geetit at the golden set) in the final of the Serie B playoffs.
President, what remains of this season?
«It remains an unforgettable season. Even if Saturday night we were left with a handful of flies in our hands ».
Dream A3 is far from gone, isn’t it?
“For how the team played on Saturday evening, for the organization of the game that it showed, we intend to take every possible path to play the next championship in the A3 series: be it a repechage, be it an exchange of category with some team that maybe decided to give up the championship. I repeat: next year, in one way or another, the company intends to compete in the A3 championship. And it is not just a will of the club: everything passes through the desire of the players, coaches and managers, commendable from all points of view. You can’t win fourteen consecutive games without an organization and a team of this level ».
Is there a bit of regret left in the aftermath of the victory over Bologna which was followed by the defeat at the golden set?
«Looking back on Saturday evening, I think the only regret is for the golden set: we ate it on the emotional aspect. Because technically we were, perhaps, even slightly superior to Bologna. But we took those four points of disadvantage that we have no longer been able to mend ».
Are we starting from Diego Poletto on the bench?
«Definitely: forward with coach Diego Poletto. But we are working on all fronts. And go on with this team ».
Will many grafts be needed, with a view to a desired repechage in A3?
«The team must be strengthened, of course, but two grafts will be enough. A band and a good backup center, so to speak. Because we can already count on elements of the highest level: like Colussi, like Candeago, like Boz. The latter, in particular, on Saturday night was the expression of the player who is not afraid of anything. One who, even on 24-23, is not afraid to beat the jump or to look for the winning bet. Naturally, the central players also played another great match. But really, on Saturday, as well as throughout the season, the whole team was very good ».
Has anyone surprised you more than others?
«The free Martinez: it was an impressive revelation this season. It changed our defense pattern. And, above all, it has grown a lot ».
Since the summer she had never been in hiding. But did you expect to get this far, to the playoff final for A3?
«More than anything else, I didn’t think the team would come to express a game of this level. On Saturday evening, in the stands, Renzo Savasta was among the many. One that the Serie A has played far and wide. He told me he saw a beautiful volleyball. And if he said it, we must believe it … ».
