Alexander Zverev failed at his opening hurdle at the ATP tournament in Acapulco/Mexico. The top-seeded Olympic tennis champion lost the German duel with Daniel Altmaier 3:6, 6:3, 3:6.

Altmaier used his first match point after 2:25 hours. “This victory means a lot to me,” said the Kempen native, who will now face Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic.

First defeat for Zverev against Altmaier

For Zverev it was the first defeat in the third duel on the tour with Altmaier. Zverev, who previously failed in the semi-finals of the ATP tournament in Los Cabos, Mexico, still has to wait for his first title win since last September.

Meanwhile, Dominik Koepfer is in the next round. The 29-year-old defeated the French qualifier Terence Atmane 6:4, 4:6, 6:0 at the start and now faces the number eight seeded American Frances Tiafoe.
