Giro d’Italia, the hourly passages of the two Belluno stages
A passage on the Fedaia

Thursday the appetizer with the passage in Feltrino, Saturday the highlight is with the Belluno-Marmolada (departure in Piazza dei Martiri at 12.15)

BELLUNO

It is the week of the Giro d’Italia on the roads of Belluno. A week of great intensity, with two days of presence of the pink race in the province.

The first is set for Thursday, when the Borgo Valsugana – Treviso will be run, a fraction that includes about thirty kilometers in the Belluno area, those that go from Fastro, just past the Primolano Stairs, to Fener: in succession the territories of Arsié, Fonzaso, Feltre and Quero.

The pink race therefore returns to color the Feltre area after the great day of 2019 when the Feltre – Monte Avena was staged, a stage that almost entirely retraced the track of the Sportful Dolomiti Race. The passage to Feltre is expected around 3 pm, but the pink caravan will also stop shortly before.

The key day will naturally be Saturday, when the Belluno – Marmolada will decide, probably definitively, who will win the final pink jersey.

Departure at 12.15 from Piazza dei Martiri, arrival on Fedaia (after San Pellegrino and Pordoi) around 17. The stage will not be very long (167 kilometers of development) but the difference in height is frightening: 4. 490 meters. Saturday will be the second arrival of the Giro at the top of the Fedaia Pass.

The first time a finish line at the foot of the Marmolada was in 2008, with the Arabba – Passo Fedaia, which also included Pordoi, San Pellegrino, Giau and Falzarego. The winner was Emanuele Sella from Vicenza (who also won the day before at Alpe di Pampeago) who won with 2’05 “over his teammate Domenico Pozzovivo and with 2’10” over Riccardo Riccò.

To wear the pink jersey at the start of Arabba was the Lombard Gabriele Bosisio but the insignia of the primacy at the top of the Fedaia passed (for the first time in his career) on the shoulders of the Spanish champion Alberto Contador who took them to the final triumph in Milan. Among the passages on the terrible slopes of the Fedaia (the most difficult part consists of the five kilometers after Malga Ciapela, which have peaks of 18 percent) of particular suggestion the passage of 1998 when, in Asiago – Selva di Val Gardena, after Malga Ciapela Marco Pantani took off (together with Giuseppe Guerini) and went to win his first squad and, then, his first Giro d’Italia.
