More than six months before the big start in Florence (Italy), the Groupama-FDJ team has already revealed half of its squad for the 2024 Tour de France. Unsurprisingly, David Gaudu (27 years old), 9th at the end from the last edition, should be leader and still aim for the general classification, but with a more offensive attitude announced.
Like last year, he will be accompanied by the French champion Valentin Madouas (27 years old) and the Swiss Stefan Küng (30 years old), whose ambition will also be directed towards the Classics then the time trials of the Games in Paris and World Championships around his home in Zurich.
This group will find freshness with the young Romain Grégoire (20 years old), who will already discover the Grande Boucle after an impressive first season among professionals (winner of the 4 days of Dunkirk and the Tour du Limousin, 2nd in a stage of the Vuelta). The Bisontin puncher has already completed several stages, including the first days in Italy.
His teammate of the same generation, Lenny Martinez, will return to the Tour of Spain which was so successful for him in 2023. The youngest wearer of the red jersey in history will be accompanied by Gaudu, who therefore plans to double the Tour de France and Vuelta .
Questions about the Giro
The program for the Tour of Italy (May 4-26) is much more vague. Initially planned around Paul Penhoët (22 years old), the project fell through since the rupture of the cruciate ligaments in the right knee of the winner of the Coupe de France last week.
Groupama-FDJ still hopes to bring a sprint-oriented group, but the list of riders that makes it up is still being considered. The young New Zealander Laurence Pithie (21 years old) could be an option.
