In the 2nd Bundesliga, FC Hansa Rostock won 3-1 (0-0) against SV Wehen Wiesbaden at the start of the 28th matchday. On Friday evening (April 5th, 2024), Rostock’s Damian Roßbach (51st minute), Kai Pröger (72nd) and Svante Ingelsson (94th) provided new hope of staying in the league. Ivan Prtajin’s goal (78th) wasn’t enough for Wehen Wiesbaden.
With the win, Rostock was able to leave the penultimate place in the table, at least for the time being, and is now in 15th place with 31 points in the tight relegation battle of the 2nd league. The Hessians, with the same number of points, are in 13th place after their third defeat in a row and have to look further down.

Rostock dominates the game, but harmless
FC Hansa Rostock was the more active team from the start in the rainy Ostseestadion. Coach Mersad Selimbegović’s team’s desire to win was particularly noticeable in the early stages. However, the Rostock team were initially unable to develop a real goal threat.
Wiesbaden’s offensive department also provided little impetus in the first half. Just before the break, a free kick from Robin Heußer and a header from Aleksandar Vukotic put FCH keeper Markus Kolke under pressure.
Wiesbaden had a horror start to the second half
The second half started turbulently. Damian Roßbach headed a free kick from Simon Rhein from the left into the net against three opponents to give Rostock the lead (51). 64 seconds after conceding the goal, things got even worse for Wiesbaden. Bjarke Jacobsen lost his nerve and was shown the red card after a rough tackle from behind against Nico Neidhart (52nd). A bad start for coach Kauczinski’s team in the second half.
Despite being outnumbered, Wehen Wiesbaden almost equalized. But Hansa goalkeeper Kolke was able to parry John Iredale’s shot from close range with a great reflex (70′). Instead of equalizing, Rostock countered for the next goal a little later. Kai Pröger completed a quick counterattack via Ingelsson to make it 2-0 (72′).
“It was brutally important for us. We worked towards it all week and wanted to drag Wiesbaden into the whole mess down there. Despite a few wobbles, it was a deserved victory,” said Rostock coach Mersad Selimbegović on the Sportschau microphone after the game.
Wiesbaden didn’t give up yet and scored the next goal via Ivan Prtajin (78′). So tension developed again in the last few minutes. But in the end, Swede Svante Ingelsson sealed Rostock’s home win with his goal to make it 3-1 in stoppage time (94′).
