A man suspected of having stabbed at least three people this morning at the Gare de Lyon in Paris has been arrested: he is a 32-year-old of Malian nationality who presented Italian documents to the authorities, according to police sources. The French media reported it. In particular, the newspaper Le Parisien talks about an Italian residence permit. According to a provisional report from the Police Headquarters, the attack occurred around 8:00 am and caused one serious injury – which is not life-threatening – and two minor injuries.

The Paris police prefect, Laurent Nunez, explained that the blocked person “is of Malian nationality and “in a regular situation in Italy since 2016, with a fully valid residence permit issued in 2019”.

The initial elements of the investigation into the stabbing “do not suggest that it was a terrorist act”, said police prefect Nunez. The suspect, added the prefect, confirming media information, “clearly suffers from psychiatric disorders”.
