Jannik Sinner lost the semifinal of the Indian Wells tennis Masters 1000 against Carlos Alcaraz

Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner lost the semifinal of the Masters 1000 tournament in Indian Wells, California, United States on Saturday night. He was beaten in three sets (1-6, 6-3, 6-2) by the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, number 2 in the men’s ranking of the best tennis players in the world and reigning champion of the tournament. Sinner thus interrupted the streak of consecutive victories that had lasted since the beginning of 2024 and had reached nineteen matches: this year he began the season by winning the Australian Open, one of the four Grand Slam tournaments, the most important and prestigious in tennis . It is the most important title of his career so far.

The match was interrupted due to rain after the tennis players had played just three games in the first set: the break lasted a total of three hours, then Sinner won the first set 6-1, but lost the following ones, making a few more errors compared to the recent past. By beating Alcaraz, Sinner would have gained second position in the ATP world rankings, in which he is currently in third place (in first place is the Serbian Novak Djokovic). Alcaraz, however, remains second and will face the Russian Daniil Medvedev in the Indian Wells final.

The match between Sinner and Alcaraz was highly anticipated because the two young tennis players are currently considered the best of their generation and could start a long sporting rivalry (Sinner is 22 years old, Alcaraz 20). The Masters 1000 tournaments are second in importance only to the Grand Slams.
