Mexican Soccer Player Suspended for Aggressive Headbutt
Julian Araujo, a player for Las Palmas, has been hit with a four-game suspension as a result of an incident during a recent Copa del Rey match against Tenerife. The 21-year-old defender was shown a red card and subsequently banned for hitting an opponent in the face with his head, even though the ball was not in play at the time.
The disciplinary judge for non-professional competitions at the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) made the decision based on the referee’s report from the match, which Las Palmas ultimately lost 2-0.
In a separate development, Rayo Vallecano has requested a change in the scheduling of a league match against Las Palmas, arguing that they have been left at a disadvantage due to the short turnaround time following their Copa del Rey match against Girona.
Citing concerns for player health and recovery, Rayo Vallecano has called for the league match to be rescheduled to allow for a longer break. The club expressed frustration over what they perceive to be a lack of fairness in scheduling, highlighting previous instances where they had the least amount of rest during similar circumstances.
The scheduling for the Copa del Rey match against Rayo Vallecano will not impact Girona, as they are set to play their next league match at home against Sevilla the following day.
Rayo Vallecano has made it clear that they will not consider not traveling to Girona for the Copa del Rey match, but they are seeking a change in the timing of their subsequent league match to ensure adequate rest for their players.
