The South Korean national team made a perfect start to the Asian Cup under coach Jürgen Klinsmann.
The South Koreans won 3-1 (1-0) against Bahrain on Monday (January 15, 2024). In-Beom Hwang scored for Klinsmann’s team (38′), and Kang-In Lee scored a brace (56’/69′). Bahrain could only be happy about Abdullah Al Hashash’s equalizer (51′).
Klinsmann also relied on two Bundesliga professionals in the game. Min-Jae Kim from FC Bayern played the full distance, Stuttgart professional Woo-Yeong Jeong came on as a substitute in the 82nd minute.
With the win against Bahrain, South Korea is currently at the top of Group E. Malaysia and Jordan still await in the remaining two group games. Klinsmann could celebrate South Korea’s first Asian Championship since 1960 with a successful tournament.
Clear thing for Jordan against Malaysia
The duel between Jordan and Malaysia was a clear affair and was already decided at half time. In the 4-0 (3-0) win, the Jordanian fans celebrated two double goalscorers: Mahmoud Al Mardi scored in the 12th and 32nd minutes, Musa Al Tamari contributed his two goals in the 18th and 85th minutes. With the better goal difference, the Jordanians replaced South Korea at the top of the table.
