Ke Jie Wins Most Valuable Chess Player Award in Siege A

The 2023 Agile Clearwater Bay Cup China Go League A held its award ceremony in Sanya, Hainan on February 6th, where Ke Jie was honored with the Most Valuable Player Award. The event also saw Gu Zihao taking home the Best Leader Award for his exceptional performance.

As the captain of the Shenzhen Longhua team, Ke Jie led his team to first place in the regular season, with a personal record of 10 wins and 5 losses. His contribution played a significant role in the team’s first regular season championship victory.

Gu Zihao, on the other hand, claimed the Best Leader Award after ranking first in the leaderboard with 10 wins and 5 losses in the regular season. Gu Zihao’s Shenzhen Nie Dao Go team also secured fourth place in the regular season. The title of regular season scoring champion went to Li Xuanhao of the Chongqing Yehu Go Team, with an impressive record of 13 wins and 2 losses. Xie Hao of the Chengdu Rural Commercial Bank team was also recognized, winning the regular season popularity award.

In addition to the awards presented for the regular season, the Chinese Go Association also acknowledged players who excelled in major tournaments throughout 2023. The Chinese Asian Games women’s team, composed of Wu Yiming, Yu Zhiying, and Li He, received the Breakthrough Award of the Year for clinching the Go women’s team championship at the Hangzhou Asian Games, securing the first-ever Asian Games Go gold medal for the Chinese team. Gu Zihao was also honored with the annual inspiration award for his victory over South Korean star Shin Zhenzhen in the Quzhou Lanke Cup. Ding Hao, the winner of the Samsung Cup and LG Cup world championships within one year, was presented with the Annual Double Crown Award, and the Chengdu Women’s Go Team secured the Annual New Army Award.

Chang Hao, Chairman of the Chinese Go Association, expressed his enthusiasm for the league, stating: “The Weijia League is a pillar event for the development of Chinese Go. Today is not only an award for the league, but also a commendation for the players who have achieved outstanding results in various events in 2023. This is to better encourage everyone. Chess players will continue to work hard and achieve even better results in the 2024 World Series.”
