The national soccer team will meet Ukraine on June 3rd (8:45 p.m./live on ARD) in Nuremberg. The dress rehearsal before the start of the tournament will take place on June 7th (8:45 p.m.) in Mönchengladbach against Greece. The German Football Association (DFB) announced this on Tuesday (March 19, 2024).
“The last international games before the start of the tournament are always something special. The team is then in the middle of preparation, every single player is fighting for his place in the team and the national coach can try out the last details,” said sports director Rudi Völler about the scheduling of the games shortly before the start the home European Championship.

Ukraine and Greece are currently still playing in the playoffs for participation in the European Championship. Ukraine will first face Bosnia-Herzegovina on Thursday, while Greece will first face Kazakhstan.
Nagelsmann: “Strong, passionate teams”
“With a view to the European Championship and our group opponents, we have to prepare for different playing styles and systems. Ukraine and Greece are two strong, passionate teams – we had our difficulties with opponents of this type recently,” said Nagelsmann.
The national coach also described the opponents as a contrast to the strong teams from France and the Netherlands, against whom Germany will start the European Championship year next Saturday and Tuesday next week in Lyon and Frankfurt. On Monday, Nagelsmann gathered his squad to prepare for the prestigious duels in Frankfurt.

Germany has never lost against Ukraine and Greece. There are five wins and four draws in the statistics against Ukraine. Most recently there was a 3-3 draw in Bremen in June 2023 in the 1000th international match in DFB history. The last comparison with Greece (six wins, three draws) was almost twelve years ago. In the European Championship quarter-finals in Gdansk, the DFB team won 4-2.
Timetable until the start of the home European Championships
The test games are part of the second phase of the immediate preparation for the European Championship. Nagelsmann and his squad will be training in Weimarer Land from May 26th to 31st. Then the move to the EM quarters in Herzogenaurach follows. The host opens the European Championships on June 14th in Munich against Scotland. Other opponents in Group A are Hungary in Stuttgart on June 19th and Switzerland in Frankfurt on June 23rd.
