Lima, Peru has been selected as the host city for the 2027 Pan American Games after a successful vote at the Panam Sports Assembly. The Peruvian capital received 28 votes in favor of hosting the event, securing its place as the venue for the second time in history.

The candidacy for Lima was presented by key figures including Renzo Manyari, president of the Peruvian Olympic Committee, Gustavo Adrianzén, the Prime Minister, Rafael López Aliaga, Mayor of Lima, and athlete Eduardo Romay. President Dina Boluarte also expressed her commitment to the event via video.

Lima’s presentation highlighted the city’s infrastructure, budget, and government support for organizing a successful Pan American Games. The selection process involved a virtual vote by 40 member committees, with a total of 52 votes available. The winning city needed at least 27 votes to secure the hosting rights.

The decision was made during a live exhibition event held at the JW Marriott in Miami, where each candidate had 40 minutes to present their case. The Peruvian team emphasized their experience in hosting major sports events, including the successful Lima 2019 Pan American Games and upcoming Bolivarian Games in 2024 and 2025.

While Lima emerged victorious in the bid, the city faced stiff competition from Asunción, Paraguay, which also sought to host the event as a means of advancing sports development in the region. Both cities presented strong cases for hosting the games, but Lima’s proven track record and commitment to sports excellence ultimately secured the win.

The selection of Lima as the host city for the 2027 Pan American Games marks a significant milestone for Peru and reaffirms the country’s standing as a premier sports destination in the region. The event is expected to bring economic benefits, cultural exchange, and international attention to Lima, further solidifying its reputation as a world-class host city for major sporting events.
