Monopoli-Avellino: not only deserve but want at all costs

Today’s all-white-green challenge at Venetians of Monopoli. Avellino arrives with its over 400 fans in tow and consequently there is great curiosity to see one of the many great fans of the Italian province at work up close, wealth and true added value of the national movement which may be in crisis, but continues to offer a plurality that elsewhere is pure utopia. The game is played on a Saturday evening and the temperature isn’t even that cold for the average February, a short and bitter month as the popular proverb says but once past which you can already start dreaming of a new spring.

The Avellino ultras enter after the match has well begun and their arrival is marked by the throwing of a torch onto the pitch, which leads to a brief suspension of the match. Having placed their truly beautiful “1912” banner, they begin by supporting the cause. The team on the pitch immediately gave them a goal from a penalty, from which the sector gained even more energy. The support was really good for the entire ninety minutes: big flags, two poles, lots of handing, in short, the Avellino fans confirmed themselves as very experienced fans, offering an excellent performance both in terms of numbers and quality. There is no shortage of offensive chants aimed at the whole of Puglia, just as there are many smoke bombs lit during the match. Congratulations to them!

Monopoli instead approaches this challenge with some anxiety: the team of Seagull is in dire straits as far as the standings are concerned, but the public, in this case especially that of the Curva Nord, puts all their determination and desire to fight on the field, offering the classic willing and courageous performance, with always good support to see and hear. They literally never stop, from the first minute of the game: they essentially offer ninety minutes at very good levels, despite yet another negative performance from the eleven on the pitch. Applause for the Curva Nord which today too, despite the defeat in the green rectangle, demonstrated not only that it deserves salvation but also that it wants to achieve it at all costs. A wise choice to try to encourage one’s eleven rather than humiliate them impatiently, as could humanly happen to anyone: if the team managed to channel this determination and make it its own, the poor ranking would undoubtedly benefit as well.
