BELLUNO

More than five hundred athletes flooded the center of Belluno yesterday for a double national event organized by the Orienteering Dolomiti. The highlight of the day was represented by the Knockout race, a new orienteering format that provides access to the final only after passing a few knockout stages. Samuele Tait (Gronlait) and Viola Zagonel (Polisportiva Masi) have graduated in the streets of the center. Zagonel actually finished fourth at the finish line, but first among the athletes of Italian nationality. The best “pink” result, in fact, was that of the Lithuanian Gvildyte in front of the Swiss Elena Pezzati who is registered with Fonzaso. And, speaking of Fonzaso, another standard bearer of the Feltre club also reached the final in the Knockout: Mattia Scopel, sixth.

In Belluno, also yesterday, a Sprint race was held that saw five hundred athletes at the start. The Fonzaso stood out by winning first three places: with Gabriele Zucco in the M12, Alberto Bazan in the M20 and Matias Scarton in the Elite. Also on the podium went Davide Alban (second in the M20), Giada Corso (third W18) and Bea Arn (third W60).

Finally, Nicol Canova from Belluno under Pavione got a nice second place among the W20s. At the end of the two days (Saturday, in fact, had competed in Feltre) the president of Orienteering Dolomiti, Marcello Primon, underlined the work of the volunteers and the success of the event in compliance with the anti Covid protocols.
