Moritz Seider celebrated an important victory with his Detroit Red Wings in the playoff race of the North American professional ice hockey league NHL.

The Red Wings, who have not reached the playoffs since the 2015/16 season, defeated John-Jason Peterka’s Buffalo Sabers 3-1 and are currently in eighth place in the Eastern Conference table. Seider, who had the most playing time of all field players on his team with over 27 minutes, and Peterka also remained without a scorer point.

Detroit was already 3-0 up after eight minutes; Lucas Raymond (1st minute), superstar Patrick Kane (5th) and Dylan Larkin (8th) had already scored by this point. Buffalo shortened the score through Tage Thompson (14th), but otherwise found no gaps.

Detroit would currently be one of two teams qualified for the playoffs other than the top three teams in each of the two divisions in the East. In the tight race for qualification, Detroit will host its direct rivals, the Washington Capitals, on Tuesday. The Capitals suffered their sixth defeat in a row with a 3-2 defeat after overtime against the Ottawa Senators. Ottawa was missing German striker Tim Stützle with a shoulder injury.

Senators help the Red Wings

Seider and the Red Wings received help in the fight for playoff participation from the Ottawa Senators. The team with national player Tim Stützle, who was missing due to a shoulder injury, won 3-2 after overtime against the Washington Capitals. The “Caps” remain one point behind Detroit in the table. On Tuesday there will be a direct duel between the playoff opponents.

The Senators, like Nico Sturm and the San Jose Sharks, who lost 2:5 to the Arizona Coyotes, no longer have a chance of making the playoffs. The same applies to the Chicago Blackhawks with Lukas Reichel, who lost 0-4 to the Minnesota Wild.
