Mortara, sprinted for the playoffs, winning the last two games may not be enough

Anything can still happen at the top of the second phase Silver group when there are only two days left and the same Expo Inox Mortara, which shares the primacy with Piadena, Nervianese and Cusano Milanino, is not master of its destiny to the end. The first three of the group access the playoffs and the team coached by coach Alfonso Zanellati may not be enough to win the last two games to enter the promotion play-off table.

“By winning the last two games, we qualify for the playoffs only if they lose one of the other three teams currently paired with us and, in any case, if all four do not arrive at par – explains the historic Gialloblù manager Max Werlich – In case of arrival with four in the lead, we should try to win the last two races with a wide gap in order to significantly increase the difference between points scored and conceded ». This is because it does not help that much the detached classification that is triggered only in the event of an equal finish between teams that met in the first phase. In the specific case, Mortara could claim the 2-0 with the Nervianese, but the victory with Cusano and the defeat at Piadena in the second phase would not count. “The important thing is to have avoided the play-outs and because of the way she had put herself at a certain point, there was a real risk”, concludes the Werlich analysis. In the lead sprint, however, Piadena has an advantage having a race to recover. The Expo Inox, for its part, will be a guest at Fortitudo Busnago on Saturday afternoon at 18.30 and will close at home the following Saturday with Ospitaletto, but the direct clashes Nervianese-Piadena and Cusano-Cremona will be decisive in the next round before a last round without Challenges among the first in the standings. For Mortara, regret remains for the two avoidable recent defeats suffered at home with Cermenate and away to Soresina, without which today it would already be almost certain to play the playoffs.
