Munari, goodbye to football but leaves a door open to Ivrea “I could reconsider”

Nicolò Munari

The 36-year-old was the most employed player of the year “I’d like to dedicate myself more to my family, but I’m fine here”

MONTALTO DORA

He is the player who has scored the most minutes in the league, 2,561, scoring even a goal, on the last day of group B of Promotion in the 1-2 defeat against Lascaris, Nicolò Munari, 36 years old (entrepreneur by profession) and central defender of Ivrea, at the end of this season he said goodbye to football, even if he does not rule out an afterthought.

possible rethinking

He himself explains: «At the end of last season I decided to stop to dedicate more time to my family and in particular to my son Cesare, born just four months ago – says Munari -. The managers of Ivrea, however, are trying to convince me to go back and play again next season. What is certain is that if I had to change my mind and then go back to wearing football boots, I would do so by giving priority to the orange Ivrea jersey, the shirt that I have always dreamed of wearing as an Ivreaese ».

Munari, initially a midfielder and then moved, in the course of his brilliant career, to the role of central defender then comments last season: “It was really a shame for how it ended, we were at the top of the standings after the first round and we hoped to be able to finish at the top and instead in the second round we encountered some problems and we finished fourth. In the Italian Cup then we only came out in the semifinals at the hands of Dormelletto. Finally, unfortunately, things did not go well in the playoffs – explains Munari -. I was the player who scored the most minutes in the league and I am personally happy with this, but I always put the team first and there is a bit of regret. The decision to end the game does not depend on the season just passed, nor on the new coach Tosoni, to whom I hope to do the best for this glorious club – Munari comments -. If I had to change my mind, I would be ready to give everything for these colors for the fourth time in my career ».

The carreer

Munari after having made the youth academy with Pro Vercelli and having made his debut in the first team in the then C2, played in Serie D with Alessandria and Rivarolese in D, then first in C2 with Ivrea, arriving again at Rivarolese in D and then , in order, Biellese, Asti and Sciolze in Excellence. After the Turinese, the strong Ivrea defender moved to Orizzonti United, before returning for the second time to Ivrea, in Excellence. After this adventure in orange, Munari subsequently wore the shirts of Borgaro, in Excellence, Banchette in Promotion, Biellese in Excellence and again Ivrea, as he says: “The best year was undoubtedly that of C2 with Ivrea, when in the early 2000s we played derbies with the then Canavese, despite having won a championship in excellence with Asti and an Italian Promotion Cup with Orizzonti United ».

the role

Munari then also talks about his role: “I am inspired by Bonucci, in the sense that I also like to set up the action, while as regards the role of scorer, my model has always been Chiellini, two very important players who have have been an example in all these years that I have played football ». The verb to play used in the past form, in the Ivrea home, they therefore hope it could have been only a slip and that Munari will return to lead the orange rearguard also in the 2022/2023 Promotion championship. –
