New to the Visma classic, here is the Tre Cime race

by admin

On 8 and 9 January first the Criterium from Palus to Misurina then the “time trial” to the Auronzo refuge for professionals only

Three Peaks race. This is the novelty of the 2021-2022 cross-country skiing season. It is two days scheduled for Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 January: on the first day there will be the Tre Cime Criterium, a 48-kilometer race starting from Palus San Marco and arriving in Misurina; on the second day, the Misurina individual tempo is scheduled, a time trial race from Misurina to the Auronzo refuge. An innovative and in a certain sense also daring proposal, conceived and organized by Tre Cime Race – an organizational reality led by Andrea Vidotti and Andrea Franzoi – with the fundamental economic support of the Municipality of Auronzo and the Province of Belluno.

Enhance the territory

The objective is the enhancement of the territory through sport, with a focus on cross-country skiing, for the public of northern and eastern Europe. The two days is included in the Visma Ski Classics, long distance circuit, in classic technique, which between December and April will include fifteen races of the most important and fascinating, including the “mother of all granfondo”, the Vasaloppet, and the Marcialonga. If the race against time will be reserved only for professionals, the first day, which will develop following the cycle path, will also see amateurs in the race. “Only as regards the professional teams, there will be over three hundred people between athletes and technicians”, explains Franzoi, “but the hope is to have many amateurs at the start for what is meant to be an opportunity for sport but also for promotion of the territory: in this sense, the presence of many Northern European TVs is fundamental, which will give a very wide coverage to the event. In order to enhance the territory, moreover, we are setting up, in Misurina, a series of collateral events which during the two days of competition will be an attraction for the public and which will enhance the agricultural and food products of Veneto and Italy ».

a day without a car

The idea is to close the area around the lake to traffic, to make it accessible only through a shuttle service that connects Misurina to Auronzo, Cortina and Dobbiaco. “The climb to the Auronzo refuge will be innovative, as in the past it was the climb to Cermis, the final stage of the Tour de Ski”, says Franzoi, “it will be something spectacular that will make it possible to enhance both the athletic gesture of cross-country skiers and an environment as unique as that of the Three Peaks. For logistical reasons, we were unable to open the climb to amateurs. It will be reserved exclusively for professionals who, once they reach the finish line, will be taken back to the valley by helicopter ». The Tre Cime Race also sees the collaboration of the Carabinieri Sports Center of Palus San Marco, of former cross-country skiers such as Bruno Debertolis and Michel Rainer. Race director will be Marina Rizzo. «We are finalizing the organizational details», Franzoi concludes, «the website www. trecimerace. com where you can find all the information you need on the two days and complete your registration ».
