Michael Andretti and Cadillac wanted to enter the circus in 2025 or 2026, but the General Motors engine will only be ready in 2028. F1: They would not be competitive, an 11 team is not interested
Twenty points written with the assistance of lawyers to reject the Andretti team’s candidacy to enter F1 as the eleventh team starting from 2025.
Liberty Media’s decision was made after a careful study of the project presented by Michael Andretti, son of Mario, two-time world champion. It was not a light-hearted choice because the demand came from the USA, because the FIA

had given the green light despite the opposition of the 10 teams already present.
Liberty’s consideration is simple: an eleventh team would not add value in itself. The list of no’s is extensive: a meeting in London which Andretti representatives did not want to participate is also mentioned.
The FIA governing body in July approved Michael Andretti’s year-old request to expand the grid with his new team, but F1 took six months to make its own review. Just today, Wednesday, the deadline was set for a decision to be made.
Another aspect concerns having underestimated the technical complexity by announcing that it wanted to debut initially with an engine supplied by one of the existing manufacturers, and only later to make use of General Motors power units (because they were not immediately ready).
However, there remains an open window for 2028. Come back with a more ambitious plan and with greater support from GM. This is the message for Andretti.
