Offshore sailor aims for 8,848m to raise money for mucoviscidosis sufferers
The challenge of Maxime Sorel to reach the summit of Everest, where it would have 30% breathing capacity. “There I will measure what patients with cystic fibrosis can experience,” said the 36-year-old, who has always been involved in raising funds for those suffering from mucoviscidosis, a hereditary pancreatic disease that affects the respiratory tract.
Sorel is, first and foremost, an offshore sailor who finished 10th at the 2021 Vendée Globe. It is no easy feat to climb the 8,848m Roof of the World. First he spent a month acclimatizing to certain temperatures, then with two traveling companions – Guillaume Vallot and Julien Fernandez – and four Sherpas, he decided to attempt the feat to demonstrate that nothing is impossible.
