Official: RWDM puts its fate in the hands of Yannick Ferrera to stay in the Jupiler Pro League

by admin

Yannick Ferrera is the new coach of RWDM. The Brussels club just announced this. This means that the PhD candidate is now in her fourth (!) coach of the season. RWDM wants to maintain itself in the Jupiler Pro League through the Relegation Play-offs

“From Tuesday, Yannick Ferrera will take over the leadership of the first team, with the aim of keeping RWDM in the Jupiler Pro League. The rest of the sporting staff will retain their positions. RWDM would like to thank Bruno Irles for the work he has done in recent weeks and wishes the best to his successor, Yannick Ferrera,” the club said.

Yannick Ferrera reacts satisfied with the opportunity and sounds ambitious despite the dire situation the club finds itself in. “I am very happy to become the coach of RWDM. As a Brussels resident, it is an enormous pride to be able to work for this club, which is a monument of Brussels culture. Maintaining RWDM in the Jupiler Pro League must be the goal for everyone: players, staff, management, supporters, employees. By working together, there is no doubt we can achieve retention through the play-downs.”

In recent years, Ferrera has mainly worked abroad, in Saudi Arabia (Al-Riyadh and Al-Fateh) and in Cyprus (Omonia Nicosia). In our country he previously worked at Waasland-Beveren, KV Mechelen, Standard, STVV and Charleroi.

At RWDM it is a real coaching carousel this season. Vincent Euvrard had guided the Brussels team to 1A and started preparations, but was kicked out a few days before the start of the competition. The Brazilian Claudio Caçapa took over and did well for a while, but after some poor results he was forced to retire at the beginning of February.

Enter Bruno Irles. The Frenchman had to try to avoid the play-downs, but only picked up one point in five games. As a result, RWDM ended the regular competition last with just 23 points from thirty games.

It turned out to be enough for the Molenbeek board to send Irles away again after a month. RWDM will have another chance in the Relegation Play-offs to ensure an extended stay in the Jupiler Pro League, and that will happen with Yannick Ferrera. Nice detail: his uncle Emilio was the last trainer in the history of ‘the old’ RWDM and was also with FC Brussels in their first season in the first division.
