(dpa) French international footballer Paul Pogba is facing the end of his career after a positive doping test. The 30-year-old Juventus midfielder was banned for four years by the responsible sports court on Thursday. Pogba tested positive for testosterone in August after a Serie A game between Juve and Udinese Calcio. The B sample confirmed the result. His last hope now rests on the Cas International Court of Arbitration for Sports in Switzerland. Pogba will appeal to the court in Lausanne.

«I was informed of the decision today and I believe that the verdict is wrong. “I am sad, shocked and heartbroken that everything I have built up in my professional career has been taken away from me,” Pogba wrote on Instagram.

What was once the most expensive transfer in football history has been temporarily blocked since the beginning of September. Pogba also admitted that he had taken a food supplement whose package leaflet mentioned performance-enhancing substances. “I have never knowingly or intentionally taken nutritional supplements that violate anti-doping regulations,” wrote the 81-time French international.

The 81-time French international has been under contract with the Italian record champions again since 2022, for whom he played from 2012 to 2016. In fact, he has only been on the pitch occasionally since then. He wasn’t used in the game against Udine either, but only sat on the bench.

More to come.
